What is MasterCard SecureCode?
MasterCard SecureCode is an innovative service offering secure Internet shopping, using your preferred form of Internet payment - the debit card. MasterCard SecureCode lets you add a personal SecureCode™ to your existing card, getting added security and the reassurance that only you can use your card online.

How does MasterCard SecureCode protect me?
Once you've registered and created a SecureCode, each time you make an online purchase, a window will pop up asking for your SecureCode. When you correctly enter your SecureCode, you confirm that you are the authorized cardholder and your purchase is completed. If the correct code is not supplied, your financial institution cannot confirm your identity and the purchase will not be completed. No code, no confirmation, no purchase.

 How does MasterCard SecureCode work?
When you purchase online, MasterCard SecureCode issues a receipt at the end of the checkout process. The receipt includes details of your current purchase, such as site name, purchase amount and date. You sign the receipt using your personal SecureCode and click "Submit" to proceed with the purchase. Without your SecureCode, the purchase cannot take place.

Tips for using your debit card online:

  • Make certain your Internet shopping sites are secure: Look for secure transaction symbols when shopping online to ensure your account information is protected. These include a lock in the lower right-hand corner of your browser window and a Web address that begins with “https.” Always log off from any site after you make a purchase. If you can’t log off, close the browser to prevent unauthorized access to your account information.
  • When shopping online, deal with reputable merchants and be wary of unbelievably low prices.
  • Never disclose information about your card in response to an unsolicited e-mail or request: E-mail is a common channel for fraud perpetration. Never provide your debit or credit card number, PIN or any other non-public personal information to any entity in response to an unsolicited e-mail or request. Your financial institution will never ask you for your PIN.
  • Do not disclose information about your card over the telephone: No company or individual should ever ask for your PIN, not even your financial institution. If you perform transactions over the telephone using your debit card, never disclose your PIN.
  • Report a lost or stolen card at once: Immediately call your financial institution if your card is lost or stolen to reduce the chance that it will be used improperly. Immediate notice of lost or stolen cards will also limit your potential liability for unauthorized transactions.
  • Review your account statements for unauthorized transactions: Review all account statements from your financial institution promptly, and report any errors (including transactions you believe may be unauthorized) as soon as possible.
  • Check your accounts online about once or twice a week. Checking accounts online often can help you spot suspicious activity quickly. Prompt notification will limit your potential liability for unauthorized transactions.
  • Protect your card’s magnetic stripe: Do not expose your card’s magnetic stripe to magnetic objects. Magnetic objects can damage your card.

  • Never give your Social Security number, credit or debit card numbers, personal identification numbers (PINs) or any other confidential information in response to an unsolicited e-mail, text message or phone call, no matter who the source supposedly is.
